What's the sense of paying for a policeman to oversee work being done on Short Beach Road when you drive by and have to get through orange cones placed to divert traffic and he's leaning on his car texting on his phone .Kind of like suicide alley hoping the guy coming at you gets how the detour works and doesn't smash into you. I guess we didn't need his help. Outrageous.

You are absolutely right. It is frustrating. However, the officers are being paid by the contractor - although that begs the question "who pays the contractor;" the answer is, of course, you and I. This kind of overtime is a huge income supplement for regular officers.
